Step #1 - Do I want to go?
This might seem like a silly question, of course you want to, why else would you be asking right? Well, before you get yourself into an unwise situation the travel wise person will ask themselves if they really want to spend the time, energy and money on international travel. So before you dial up your favorite online travel website or send a blank check off to rural Botswana, ask yourself these next questions and be honest with your answers.
1) Do I have the time to spend?
2) Do I have the money to spend, or more?
3) Will I really enjoy myself?
4) Finally, what would I do if I didn't go?
Step #2 - Where do I want to go?
Okay, so you decided that you really want to go on this experience, what next. Well, you have to decide where you want to go. Once again this may seem like an absurd question, but a smart traveler knows there is more to it than meets the eye. For instance, you decide that you really want to go to Costa Rica to help indigent children, but without investigation you end up there in the wrong season and sit in rain for 20 strait days while the clinic you chose is closed for holidays.
