Our reason for being
The purpose of RaP (reviewaprogram.com) is to serve as a database, experience journal and conduit of international programs that offer medical, mission, volunteer, elective credit and education opportunities for interested individuals around the world. These types of experiences can be some of the most wonderful and life changing events of people's lives as well as provide sustainable results for local populations. We have found that the largest obstacle between willing people and needy or helpful programs is the initial connection. It is nearly as impossible for medical missions in sub-Saharan Africa to advertise to a willing student in Kansas as it is for that student to find a safe, worthwhile program to attend. Our goal is to serve as the tool that puts the two of them together.
How we came into being
RaP was conceived by Dan Imler, MD during his pediatric residency training at Stanford University. After searching the internet extensively, he found how hard it was to find information about overseas programs which was timely, accurate and useful. Thus, spawned this website which, allows visitors to submit, review and search international programs as well as facilitate their travel. By hearing what people who have experienced these programs first hand have to say about their usefulness the user can understand much more accurately what the program is all about Whether, you plan on working in an AIDS clinic in Africa or learning Spanish in Costa Rica, RaP wants to help you find the right place to live out your experience.
